Veteran Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has made a shocking announcement of his retirement from ODIs, just 15 days ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy. Stoinis, who debuted in the format in 2015 after Australia’s fifth ODI World Cup win, played 71 matches for the Men in Green and Gold, scoring 1,495 runs at an average of 26.7 and claiming 48 wickets. In recent years, he was an integral part of the middle order, alongside Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh.

“Playing ODI cricket for Australia has been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for every moment I’ve had in the green and gold,” Stoinis said in a statement released by Cricket Australia.

He added, “Representing my country at the highest level is something I’ll always cherish.” Stoinis also revealed that he had informed head coach Andrew McDonald of his decision.

“This wasn’t an easy decision, but I believe it’s the right time for me to step away from ODIs and focus on the next chapter of my career. I’ve got a fantastic relationship with Ron (McDonald) and I’ve greatly appreciated his support. I’ll be cheering the boys on in Pakistan,” he further stated.
